Chad Valley (England) produced its first teddy bear in England in 1915. In 1931 they were granted The Royal Warrant of Appointment as Toymaker's to the Queen. They purchased H.G. Stone (Chiltern) in 1967 & the amalgamated company became the biggest soft toy maker in Great Britain. Chad Valley was taken over in 1978 by Palitoy (who were later purchased by American Company Kenner Parker).  In 1988 Woolworth's purchased the Chad Valley trade name and moved production to Asia until Woolworth's themselves closed. The Home Retail Group purchased the brand name and trademarks. Chad Valley is now a name available exclusively from Argos
